How it all began: a burst pipe and a life decision
Have you ever been through the ordeal of seeing water gushing out of the bathroom, not knowing what to do, and on top of that having to wait hours (and paying a lot) for a plumber? Well, me too.
It was on a Sunday afternoon that everything changed for me. A pipe burst in the laundry room and water began to flood the entire house.
I called several plumbers and got no response. When I finally did, the guy charged an arm and a leg just to show up.
At that moment I thought: “Why don’t I learn how to solve this kind of thing myself?”
There began my journey in free plumbing courses — and, without exaggeration, it was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made in my life.
Why learning plumbing can change your life?
Before I show you the free courses I took (and recommend!), let me tell you why this profession makes so much sense:
- There is always demand. Everyone needs a plumber. Always.
- You start earning well, even as a beginner. In my first job, I already earned more than I earned in a week at my previous job.
- You can work for yourself, do odd jobs, or even start your own business.
- And the best part: You can learn everything for free and from scratch, online.
You don't need any previous experience or technical training. You just need a desire to learn, access to the internet and a little curiosity.
Where to learn plumbing for free: my favorite courses
After a lot of research and some failed attempts, I discovered the best free plumbing courses. Here are the ones that really taught me and helped me get into the market:
1. Senai – Plumber Building Installer Course (EAD)
This was the first one I did. The content is quality, with well-explained videos and handouts. I learned everything from reading blueprints to pipe and connection installation techniques. And the best part: it comes with a certificate! Ideal for those who want a solid foundation.
Strengths:
- Free online course
- Quality technical content
- Certificate at the end
2. Bradesco Foundation – Hydraulic Installations Course
This course is geared more towards residential use, so it is perfect for those who want to do home maintenance or work on renovations. It teaches about pressurization, reservoirs, pipes, valves and more.
Strengths:
- Excellent teaching
- Quick course, straight to the point
- Fully online
3. YouTube – Manual do Mundo Channel and other specialized channels
I know that many people don't appreciate it, but on YouTube I learned the practical aspects. I saw step by step how to cut pipes, weld PVC, install water tanks, fix leaks and much more.
Golden tip: Search for “free online plumbing course” or “step-by-step plumbing”. There are lots of good free stuff.
What you need to get started (even from scratch)
Many people ask me: “But is it possible to learn even without experience?” And I always answer: yes, it is possible! It was exactly like that for me. I started from absolute zero.
Here's a simple list of what you'll need:
- Internet access (it can even be done via cell phone)
- Time and dedication (about 4 hours a week already helps)
- Willingness to learn (this is the most important)
- Basic tools, such as pliers, wrenches, thread sealing tape, PVC saw — you buy them little by little, as you learn
How I got my first plumbing jobs
I won't lie: at first I was a little scared. "Will they trust me?" But look what I did:
- I shared it in the family WhatsApp group – and soon my aunt called me to fix the shower.
- I posted on the neighborhood Facebook – in less than a week, I did two small jobs and gained confidence.
- I created a free digital card – with my name, services and contact details. It was a differentiator.
After that, it was just a matter of maintaining the high level of service, treating customers well and being honest. Word of mouth did the rest.
Tips I learned in practice (and that no one tells you)
- Don't try to save on thread sealing tape. Seriously, it's cheap and prevents leaks.
- Always check that registration is closed before starting. I've already taken a cold shower because I forgot this.
- Always have a squeegee and bucket nearby. Even if it seems “clean”, unexpected things happen.
- Wear gloves. It may seem silly, but your hand will thank you.
Is it worth being a plumber today?
In all honesty? It's worth a lot.
In addition to being a valued and highly demanded profession, you have the chance to change your life with little investment. In less than 3 months, I was already earning extra income from my services. In 6 months, I quit my old job. Today, I have a loyal clientele and I can earn a good amount of money every month — working on my own.
And the best part: it all started with free plumbing courses.
Summary of main points
- Learning plumbing can give you a new profession — and it won’t cost you anything.
- The best free plumbing courses are from Senai, Bradesco Foundation and YouTube.
- You can start from scratch, even without experience or tools.
- With dedication, you can turn this knowledge into income.
- The secret is in practice, in publicity and in trusting your work.
